In the search to engage our audience and enrich their minds, marketers have experimented with many different forms of content. Long-form, short-form, white papers, case studies, static, interactive, you name it and it’s been tried. And we continue to see massive interest in content that takes data like a spreadsheet and transforms it into something comprehensible through the visual story. Like a map of wind movement, or an interactive infographic that highlights key facts into a simple-to-read series of call-outs.

In the spirit of inspiring you, here are a few brands that made data fun again.

What Makes a Good Visualization?

Don’t take my word for it. Check out this visualization, “What Makes a Good Visualization?”

How Usain Bolt Came From Behind Again to Win Gold

One of my favorite visualizations is from New York Times. In 2016 when Usain Bolt won gold again for the 100 meter race, they used photos to illustrate his win. It’s hard to visualize a 1/100th of a second leap ahead, but NYT does a great job of helping us visualize it on the track with Usain.

Cars 2025 by Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs did a beautiful job illustrating the future of cars with their interactive infographic that goes beyond visualizing data. It also helps you understand what a self-driving, fuel efficient car of the future may look like.

Automatic Pro — Year in Review

Automatic Pro takes your driving data and turns it into a visual that helps you understand your personal driving patterns. I do a lot of driving so seeing this data in one easy place is AMAZING! I especially love the graphs that show you an instance of time and the references, like how many times you drove around the world.

Veracode: Securing your Application

Tied to the yearly State of Software Security (SOSS) report, Veracode uses interactive content to make consuming data easier for their audience. They used call outs to share the data and broke down the report into easy to understand graphs that are tied to deeper insights.

One of the easiest ways to add value to your marketing interactions is to increase the comprehension of your information, and visual content helps you do just that. I hope these examples help inspire your next data visualization in a new, or unique way.
