On ion’s homepage right now, it says that “ion is the CMS for everything your CMS can’t do.” And it’s true! But what do we really mean by that?

Having a platform that can create interactive experiences with no code, lots of flexibility, and little resources is huge! And having the ability to embed those experiences inside an existing site environment is the cherry on top. In this week’s Ask Audrey, ion’s Director of Customer Engagement explains what that CMS statement really means to us and how ion has enabled our customers to create interactive content outside of what their website CMS is used for.

Interviewer:

On our homepage right now it says, “ion is the CMS for everything your CMS can’t do.” I’m wondering if you can talk more about that, how you see our customers using ion, and what it has enabled them to do outside of what their website CMS is used for.

Audrey Ross:

I’d say in thinking about what ion can do that a CMS can’t do, we try to understand or talk about what is it that their CMS is lacking. Right? We have a lot of these early conversations with customers about kind of where are they coming from? What is it that they need from the ion platform that they’re not getting from sort of their existing status quo with the CMS that they’re using today? The limitations really are around typically there’s a lot of code that needs to be used. There’s not a lot of flexibility. Being able to bring in little pieces of interactivity, like a survey, or asking a couple of questions, or even bringing in a calculator, these are really resource-intensive efforts when trying to do it within an existing CMS environment.

Having a platform where something like that can really easily be created and then embedded inside that existing site environment is a huge plus, because they’ve got the autonomy. They’ve got the freedom. They can go in and they create these pieces without needing to rely on the coding resources or their web team in order to bring that to life. Oftentimes what can be like several weeks of development work, they’re able to use built-in features in the ion platform to be able to create something like that and go to market pretty quickly.
